On March 11, 2025, at 3:00 PM, as part of the UnifiChair initiatives, we will have the honor of hosting Paul Steinhardt, Albert Einstein Professor at Princeton University, at our Department. Paul will give a seminar on the discovery of natural quasicrystals, a fascinating research topic he has worked on extensively in collaboration with our colleague Luca Bindi. A small refreshment will be offered by the Department during the seminar.
Additionally, Prof. Paul Steinhardt will give a seminar titled: Time to Take the 'Big Bang' out of the Big Bang Theory?
The meeting will take place on Thursday, March 13, at the Aula Magna of the Rectorate, Piazza S. Marco 4, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM.
There is overwhelming evidence that the universe has expanded and cooled over the past 13.8 billion years according to the Big Bang theory. But did the Big Bang really happen? During the event, the main astronomical evidence against the Big Bang will be discussed, which could force us to replace it with a Big Bounce: an event that links a previous period of contraction to the current period of expansion. The possibility of a Big Bounce in our future will also be addressed.
Rector Alessandra Petrucci will provide the welcome remarks. The introduction will be given by Prof. Luca Bindi, Director of the Department of Earth Sciences.
